Carolyn McDill
Memorial Scholarship

To know Carolyn was to know that music was her great passion in life. From a young age listening under the piano while her older sister practiced, to more than thirty years teaching elementary vocal music, to singing with various community and professional groups, she thrived on the energy of music. Singing with a madrigal group at the Renaissance Festival, with Meistersingers, and with the Choral Arts Ensemble of Kansas City brought her great joy.
For years, Carolyn enjoyed season tickets to the Kansas City Symphony, Lyric Opera, and Kansas City Repertory Theater. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she sang with the Motet Choir.
Carolyn was a longtime member and officer of the Kansas City Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, as well as serving for many years on the board of the Kansas City Music Foundation. The annual scholarship awards had great personal meaning for Carolyn!
When we lost her in April of 2023, her friends and colleagues thought a music scholarship in her name would be a fitting way to honor her. She would be so proud of this year’s winner of her scholarship award.
