In 2024, the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists received a gift from the estate of June Marie Walker designated to provide music scholarships to organ students. June was a faithful member of the guild and, in addition to teaching music in schools during a fifty-year span, she was the organist for many churches in Olathe, including Presbyterian, Christian Science and more than 20 years as organist at First Baptist Church.

June’s legacy includes a community of lifelong family, friends, colleagues, and former students who will always remember her warm smile, love of animals and music, gentle teaching spirit and strong sense of history.

This scholarship is the inaugural scholarship to be offered from Ms. Walker’s estate by the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, in partnership with the Kansas City Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, and the Kansas City Music Foundation.
